Description:
About five species of Halesia are native to Asia and North America. They are shrubs or small trees with white flowers in spring. The Carollina silverbell is native to the southeastern United States including the Florida panhandle. It can grow to thirty feet in height. It may grow as a large shrub or a multi-stemmed small tree. Large numbers of small white flowers hang like bells from the branches in early spring. The four-winged fruits are brown and dry at maturity.

Light: full sun to part shade (more drought tolerant in shade)
Water: best in well-drained soils, somewhat drought tolerant
Soil: adaptable
Carolina silverbell grows best in partially shaded, well-drained sites. It responds to irrigation but does not grow well in a wet or heavy soil.
