Lyonia lucida - Fetterbush

Description:

About thirty-five species are native to eastern Asia and eastern North America. At least two Lyonia species in Florida are commonly known as fetterbush. Lyonia lucida is an evergreen shrub. Pink flowers are small but may be abundant in early spring. Bees pollinate the flowers. The fruits of this blueberry relative are dry capsules.

Size:

Large shrub to about ten feet tall.

Care Instructions:

Light: full sun to part shade

Water: requires a wet soil, tolerates periodic flooding

Soil: moist soil is essential, no other special requirements

This native plant is easy to grow in a wet or irrigated site in northeast Florida. It is not drought tolerant.
