Description:
About four species of Otacanthus are native to South America. In the tropics and subtropics, the Brazilian snapdragon is an evergreen shrub that blooms most of the year. Spikes of blue flowers appear in late summer to fall. Each flower has two conspicuous petals.
Location:
Plants failed on the west side of building 2 because they were not watered adequately until established.
Size:
Herbaceous plant to about two to three feet tall.
Care Instructions:
Light: part shade to full shade
Water: well-drained soil, moderately drought tolerant
Soil: acidic, no other special requirements
In north Florida, it dies to the ground in winter and resprouts the following spring. It grows one to two feet tall or more.
