Thysanolaena maxima - Tiger grass

Description:

A single species of Thysanolaena is native to Asia. Tiger grass grows in a dense clump. In warmer climates, stalks grow as high as ten feet tall. It resembles a short, wide-leafed bamboo. Reportedly, its flower spikes have been used to make brooms.

Herbaceous plant with stems to ten feet tall.

Care Instructions:

Light: part shade

Water: some drought tolerance when established

Soil: very adaptable

Tiger grass is not commonly grown in northeast Florida gardens. It is evergreen to the high 20's F. In a colder winter, it may die to the ground and recover the next spring.
