UNF Public Opinion Research Lab making national waves during election season

You have probably heard about the UNF Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL). Pubic Opinion Research Lab workers sit on computers conducting polling and two workers stand comparing data with a notebookIt makes national headlines regularly over the results of its polling research.

The UNF PORL is a full-service survey research facility that produces reliable data through carefully executed research in order to provide independent, non-partisan information for various clients and policymakers. Since its opening in March of 2001, the PORL has conducted over 240 public opinion surveys and its services include consulting, questionnaire design, population sampling, data collection, analysis, and a full, detailed report of charted results as well as a written description of findings.

The mission of the PORL is to conduct research that contributes to the knowledge and understanding of salient social, economic, political, and health issues and provide valuable public-opinion information, offer experiential learning to students, and produce high-caliber, trusted academic research.

The PORL collects data seven days a week using hand-dialed telephone interviews conducted by PORL employees, mail and internet surveys, in-person interviews and focus groups.

The PORL is a proud member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), the most highly recognized organization for public opinion research and research professionals. UNF’s PORL is a charter member of the AAPOR Transparency Initiative, which seeks to improve the transparency of methodology and survey-based findings among research organizations.

Dr. Michael Binder is the director of UNF’s PORL and an associate professor of political science. Read more from Binder on the science of polling in The Florida Times-Union.
