UNF’s Carpenter Library opens Acres of Ashes digital exhibit on anniversary of Jacksonville’s Great Fire
The University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library houses a variety of digital exhibits created to highlight selected materials held by the Carpenter Library, Special Collections and University Archives.
These exhibits are pulled together in support of particular themes.
The featured exhibit Acres of Ashes: The Great Jacksonville Fire of 1901 will launch on May 3, the anniversary of Jacksonville’s great fire, and features selected source materials from UNF Special Collections and general collections. Queen Bess: The Life of Bessie Coleman
This exhibit honors Bessie Coleman, nicknamed “Brave Bessie” and “Queen Bess,” who rose to national prominence as the first female pilot of both African American and Native American heritage.
This exhibit, featuring materials from the Eartha M.M. White Collection and the library’s general collection, examines the contributions of African American women to the American Suffrage movement and the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
Remembering President Thomas G. Carpenter
This special exhibit pays homage to the life and career of Dr. Thomas G. Carpenter, founding president of the University of North Florida.
Yellow Jack: The 1888 Jacksonville Yellow Fever Epidemic
This is a digital version of an exhibit currently on display in the Thomas G. Carpenter Library Special Collections and University Archives that explores Jacksonville's 1888 yellow fever epidemic.
Jacksonville’s Jake Goldbold
This exhibit features items from Thomas G. Carpenter Library Special Collections related to former mayor Jake Goldbold, who died on January 23, 2020.
