UNF celebrates Fall 2023 Commencement

President Moez Limayem shaking hands with a student receiving her diplomaMore than 1,000 students are walking across the stage today during the University of North Florida’s Fall 2023 Commencement ceremonies at the UNF Arena. Degrees will be awarded from 109 different combinations of majors in total. 

Graduates range in age from 19 to 66, they come from 10 countries, 31% are the first generation in their families to attend college, many have over 4.0 GPA’s and 97 are connected to the military.

Shanna Ferguson was honored with the Senior Service Award, presented by the UNF Alumni Association to a graduating senior each semester for their outstanding volunteer service to the University and community. Ferguson is graduating from the Brooks College of Health with her nursing degree. She served as an executive board member of the Transfer Student Union, was a member of Greek life and held various leadership positions in other organizations throughout campus. In spring 2024, she will begin the accelerated prelicensure nursing program at UNF and intends to continue working at UF Health as a registered nurse. Upon completion of the nursing program, Ferguson wants to transition into UNF’s nurse practitioner program and ultimately work in an emergency room setting.  

Graduates from the following colleges will move directly into careers with notable companies including:  

  • Brooks College of Health: Mayo Clinic, Baptist Medical Center and UF Health Jacksonville   
  • College of Arts & Sciences: Citi Bank, Florida Blue and AmeriCorps  
  • Coggin College of Business: Apple, CSX and Fidelity Investments  
  • College of Education & Human Services: North Florida School of Special Education, Florida Department of Corrections and Jacksonville Jaguars  
  • College of Computing, Engineering & Construction: Ajax Building Company, JEA and Johnson & Johnson  

Back of fall graduates capsThe UNF Class of Fall 2023 will join the Osprey alumni nation’s current 109,390-member total. As of summer 2023, UNF has issued 94,694 bachelor’s degrees, 23,182 master’s degrees and 1,506 doctorates since first opening in 1972.
