UNF faculty receives 2023-24 Katherine M. Kasten Doctoral Advising and Mentoring Award

Daniel Dinsmore HeadshotDr. Daniel Dinsmore, associate dean of Research, External Funding and Faculty Development at the University of North Florida’s College of Education and Human Services, is this year’s recipient of the Katherine M. Kasten Doctoral Advising and Mentoring Award. 

The award is presented each year by the UNF educational leadership doctoral program to a faculty member who embodies the same qualities as Dr. Katherine M. Kasten, who is fondly remembered for her innovative and effective advising and student mentoring. Kasten joined UNF in 1988 and served as dean of Education and Human Services from 1995 to 2004.   

Dinsmore began his teaching career at UNF in 2013. Since 2015, he has shown his commitment to scholarly mentorship by chairing 12 completed dissertations and co-chairing three more. He has advised students in multiple disciplines, including physical therapy, applied behavior analysis, PK-16 school-based learning and assessment and faculty research productivity.  

He has co-authored five peer-reviewed journal articles with his students and presented at numerous conferences. Under his guidance, five recipients have been honored with the prestigious Mulkeen Dissertation Award.  

Dinsmore says mentoring and advising doctoral students remains one of the most fulfilling aspects of his job and one that he hopes to continue.
