UNF MedNexus expands academic programs in Palm Coast

MedNexus, a University of North Florida initiative that offers innovative learning and research experiences to prepare future healthcare providers and leaders, is proud to highlight three innovative healthcare academic programs in Palm Coast, Florida. These programs mark a significant expansion of UNF MedNexus' commitment to providing cutting-edge healthcare education and training opportunities in Flagler County.

The online programs are designed to be flexible for students with busy lives that include virtual coursework, concierge advising, and internships offered in Palm Coast. Scholarships are available to offset the cost of attendance.

Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin shared his excitement about the impact of the new programs on the local community.

"The expansion of UNF MedNexus in Palm Coast is a significant milestone for our city," Mayor Alfin said. "These innovative programs will not only enhance educational opportunities for our residents but also address critical workforce needs in the healthcare sector, fostering a stronger, healthier community."

The new academic offerings are:

  • Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Administration: This program is for nurses who want to advance their administrative career to become nurse managers, directors of nursing, or chief nursing officers.
  • Master of Science in Health Informatics: In an era where data plays a crucial role in healthcare decision-making, this program prepares students to harness the power of information technology to improve patient outcomes and streamline healthcare delivery. Jobs in this field are expected to grow by 22% in the next 10 years.
  • Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN – BSN): This online program is for those who are already Registered Nurses (RNs) and who desire to further their nursing education and expand their career opportunities by completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.). The broad knowledge base found in a B.S.N. provides the opportunity for RNs to gain the competencies necessary to excel in the current and future healthcare job market.

Dr. Julie Merten, associate Dean of UNF MedNexus, expressed her enthusiasm for the launch of these new programs, which will help reduce the healthcare workforce shortages.

"We are excited to expand our academic offerings in Palm Coast and provide working professionals with the opportunity to pursue careers at the forefront of healthcare innovation,” Merten said.  "These programs reflect our commitment to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to address the evolving needs of our communities."
