Student Handbook Strength and Conditioning

Overivew

The use of the Weight Room (WR) is a privilege, not a right, and proper behavior is always required while using the facility or the privilege of use will be revoked.

No student-athletes are allowed within the facility without a certified S&C Coach present.

All NCAA rules and regulations will be enforced while using the facility.

Conduct

  • Athletes must be on time (at least 5 minutes early) for workouts unless there is a prior arrangement with the S&C Coach.
  • All workouts must be scheduled with the S&C Coach.
  • All missed lifts must be made up within one week. Three or more missed lifts will result in dismissal from the weight room and scheduled meeting with Sport Head Coach.
  • Both the S&C Coach and Sport Head Coach must be made aware of any absences 24 hours prior to the training session or as soon as the athlete knows they will be absent.
  • No sitting unless told to do so by the S&C Coach.
  • No horseplay/disrespectful behavior or offensive language allowed.
  • All individuals are responsible for “cleaning up” after themselves and replacing all equipment used back to its original location.
  • No equipment is to leave the WR for any reason unless there is prior approval from the S&C staff.

Attire

  • UNF issued clothing/gear or solid school colors are
  • No hats, hooded sweatshirts, clothing from another school or team, drug or alcohol related logo/markings are permitted.
  • Athletic shoes and socks are required.
  • No cut-off sleeves are to be worn in the WR. Only athletic t-shirts can be worn.
  • No cell phones, iPods or audio systems are allowed on the WR floor. Such devices can only be used to listen to music/watch videos while using cardio equipment.

Safety

  • A S&C Coach must be present prior to any weight training activities.
  • No more than four athletes are permitted to workout at a single platform station at a time unless directed to by a S&C Coach.
  • Spotting is required on any appropriate lift that is held over the head or torso (ex. Bench Press).
  • Safety racks are required on any lift performed inside the rack.
  • Collars are to be used on all barbell exercises unless explicitly instructed otherwise by a S&C Coach.
  • Report all injuries that occur during weight training activities to the S&C Coach and the team athletic trainer.
  • No chewing gum or any type of candy.
  • No glass water bottles or other like containers.
  • If you do not understand what a particular exercise is or how to properly do something, ASK!
