Accent Reduction Program
Accent Reduction is a separate program designed to cultivate an awareness of American English pronunciation. The objective of the course is to enhance clarity of speech for non-native speakers of English and build confidence in communication skills. Students must have a high-intermediate to advanced-level of English speaking skills to participate in the course.
Course focus:
- Learn the pronunciation of American English consonant and vowel sounds, word and sentence stress, word endings, rhythm and intonation
- Become more mindful of individual pronunciation challenges and how to correct them
- Cultivate an understanding of general spelling rules and their relation to pronunciation
Lessons include:
- Interactive activities
- Tips on correcting pronunciation challenges that have a high impact on clarity
- Opportunities to address specific needs related to real-world communication

Refund Policy
Requests for refunds must be submitted to the office of the English Language Program and must be made in writing before the end of the second week of class. Application fees are non-refundable.
- Withdrawal during the first week of class: 75% refund of the tuition will be issued if the student withdraws at the end of the first week of classes.
- Withdrawal during the second week of class: 25% refund of the tuition will be issued if the student withdraws during the second week of classes.
How to Apply
- Download the application form.
- Email it to elp@unf.edu or print it and personally deliver it to the ELP.
- Make the application and/or tuition payment before classes start.
- When the application is received, the ELP will contact you about classes.
- Applications must be received two weeks before classes start.
- Students must submit an application before making payments.
- Acceptance into the ELP is at the discretion of the program administrators, who reserve the right to decline admission to any applicant.
Parking Information
- Students can park in Lot 9 or Garage 44 after 6:00 pm without purchasing a parking permit.
- The English Language Program is located in Building 14E.

How long is the program?
- The ELP Evening Program is 12 weeks long, every Tuesday and Thursday.
- The Accent Reduction program is 10 weeks long, every Thursday.

- The ELP Evening Program is $475 per semester with a $20 application fee.
- The Accent Reduction program is $280 per semester with a $20 application fee.

What is the refund policy?
- You can receive a 75% refund during the first week of classes or a 25% refund by the end of the second week.

Can I pay for my classes in person?
- You can pay in person by credit or debit card.

Do I need a student visa to take ELP Evening Program classes?
- No, you do not need a student visa for this course. The ELP Evening Program welcomes all students into our program regardless of immigration status.

Are ELP Evening Program classes accredited?
- No, students in the ELP Evening Program and Accent Reduction classes will not receive college credits as they are not enrolled as UNF degree-seeking students. At the end of each semester, students will receive a Certificate of Completion and an official transcript.
