Le Havre & Caen, France
Students can take two courses on campus over a four-week period at the University of EM-Normandie in this special summer study abroad program taking place in two different cities in France. Notice: Due to the upcoming Paris Olympics, the second half of this program takes place in either Caen or Paris for Summer 2025.
Le Havre, France
Le Havre is the second-largest port in France with a population of 170,000 residents. Located 134 miles west-northwest of Paris, Le Havre is known as the “city of thousand skies” due to its breathtaking sunset skies, which has inspired generations of artists from impressionist to street artists. Different from the old churches and buildings in any city in France, Le Havre is rich in modern post-war architecture like the famous Perret architecture, Saint Joseph church, and the Volcano theater. You can also visit Le Havre Beach with their “the tip of the world” (“Le bout du monde”) walk under the cliffs and enjoy paddle-boarding, windsurfing, and many other water sports.
Caen, France
Located 15 minutes from the ferry that crosses the English Channel and two hours from Paris by train, Caen is known for being a lively destination. It was once the home of William the Conquerer, and boasts the grand Women's Abbey and Men's Abbey both built between 1060 and 1080. Those interested in World War II history will want to spend a full day at the Mémorial de Caen, exploring the D-Day landings from both the Allied and German perspectives. Like Le Havre, Caen is located in Normandy and has similar robust and relaxing outdoor activities available. Immerse yourself in centuries of history in this key French port city.
