Palm Coast Initiative
Healthcare Education
Palm Coast is a vibrant and growing city located in Flagler County, Florida with more than 100,000 residents. Palm Coast is situated on 70 miles of saltwater and freshwater canals and the Intracoastal Waterway and just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean beaches. City and county leaders envision Palm Coast emerging as a regional healthcare hub as they are already home to the expanding AdventHealth network.
UNF MedNexus has a centrally located educational hub in the city’s Town Center committed to delivering UNF’s world class healthcare education programs. The facility has state-of-the-art medical technology with new classrooms and meeting space.
Together with the visionary leaders of Palm Coast, we will meet the modern healthcare workforce needs of Flagler and Volusia counties. After market analysis and consultation with regional healthcare leaders, we offer the following programs:

Community Engagement
Veteran's Virtual Care
In partnership with the Flagler County Veteran’s Office, MedNexus has launched a program to support Veterans to track and improve their health. Using a wearable device, health indicators including heart rate, activity level, and sleep patterns are monitored and participants receive a daily coaching email with specific recommendations for improvement of their health. National peer-review studies have shown that wearing a fitness tracker can increase overall activity and reduce weight. The project will offer 50 Flagler County Veterans a free wearable device and one year of monitoring and coaching. This initiative is being spearheaded by Dr. Shyam Paryani, a retired physician, and Department of Health Administration faculty member.
UNF MedNexus Innovation Challenge
The University of North Florida, along with the City of Palm Coast and Flagler County Schools, host the annual MedNexus Innovation Challenge, a team-based competition showcasing regional high school students pitching their solutions to Florida’s evolving healthcare needs.
This educational opportunity for high school students offers scholarship prize money, mentorship by university faculty experts, and a platform to share innovative solutions to real healthcare needs within Florida’s First Coast.
